HOME TOUR | ELLERTON, KANDY, SRI LANKA
Ellerton, a restored plantation house set in glorious tropical gardens with wonderful views of Kandy's rolling hills is home from home in Sri Lanka.
Beautifully refurbished by its owners, Richard and Cary Goode, the Anglo-Sri Lankan interiors preserve the character of its colonial days with its four poster beds, grandfather clock along with copies of 'Country Living' throughout whilst paying homage to its Sri Lankan roots with rattan furniture, antique elephants and other relics.
The stylish hotel has eight rooms spread over the Main House, Valley House and Garden Suites. Both times, we have stayed in the Valley House and this time, we were lucky enough to stay in the master suite - a very spacious and light room accompanied by a four poster bed and lovely sitting area. The rooms in the Main House are equally beautifully decorated and are in keeping with the house's colonial character.
Adding an extra special and personal touch are their two dogs, Ben and Polly who will happily accompany you on walks. Wandering the local lanes and lush forest, listening to the Hindi chants, waving to the local children, passing by very curious monkeys (thank goodness for Ben) and colourful temples makes a welcome change from life’s usual hustle and bustle.
A thirty minute drive away is Kandy, home to the Botanical Gardens and Temple of the Tooth otherwise you can happily unwind at the hotel, taking in the tremendous valley views from the infinity pool and simply being able to take a breather and enjoy the peaceful ambience.
